I love your proof of concept. Mine was much the same, though I loved my fulltime job as utility director. But I always wanted to be a writer, and planned to have a writing business when I retired. Started with the mills - only writing I could really do when otherwise working 50-60 hours/week. Learned about B2B writing and that was my goal. Still going at age 70 - and what's great is I can write "part-time."

Great stuff ... honest stuff. The reality of putting the work in. Your story was so interesting. As I was reading it made me think ... what if we challenged writers we know to tell their stories, how did they get into writing. Because I think not every starts right into it ... they find it. Anyway, thanks for sharing this. Really good stuff.

Hi, Sandy! Thanks for the comment. And I think your challenge idea is fantastic! Maybe we could work on a joint post on that. Everyone's "origin" story is different. I'd like to know whay and how people got into writing.

Great info, Steve. I have found that perseverance, willingness to learn and honing your craft will take you where you want to go. The key is the perseverance part.

Hey, Kevin. You're exactly right. A famous person once said, "Never give up." Make it happen, my friend!
