The Write Road: Thanksgiving Day Thoughts
Letters from Fayetteville... one more time.
Yesterday... at 4:30 am... we pulled out of the driveway to make the three-hour drive over the mountains to LIttle Rock UAMS one more time and for the last time this year.
It was quite a different mood from the first time Mary and I made the trip down there, several years ago. This time, it was to have testing done on the second anniversary of her transplant surgeries.
Yes, it has been two years since we were given the gift of her life. And the tests showed everything was as it should be. The labwork was excellent, the scans were great.
Doctor “T” was smiling from ear to ear as he gave us the results.
And the next scheduled visit for the liver is set for a year, not months, from now.
Labwork for the kidney has gone to three months between instead of weekly, then monthly. They are always more delicate and need continued monitoring for a while longer.
The trip home was filled with love and hope and laughter and blessings.
And DairyQueen ice cream.
A far cry from that first long trip down there and back.
Today, on this Thanksgiving Day, I’m grateful for the team of medical professionals in Little Rock and Fayetteville that made this Thanksgiving Day possible.
The professional nurses, APRNs, doctors, specialists and all the consumate professionals that took care of Mary and allowed me to bring her home again.
And to the unknown donor, we are forever in your debt. May you rest in peace now and for all time. May God bless your family in a special way today.
And we want to thank all of you, our friends from around the world, who have followed our progress and prayed for the outcome.
You will never be forgotten.
Amen. So be it
Steve M.

Amen and Amen! God is good!
